log x^4 = (log x)^4
log x^4 = 4*log x
Let y = log x
y^4 = 4y
y^3 = 4
y = cuberoot 4 = 1.587
log x = y = 1.587
x = 38.672

You get 1 as an answer because log(1) = 0

Answer C: 1, 38.672

Trial and error shows the answer is C. A is obviously out because log(0) is undefined. B and D are out because the log of the second number is below 1. When you take the 4th power, they will simply get smaller. But the LHS is clearly going to be greater than one, after you take the 4th power and THEN the log.

i cant seem to find an answer either... im really good at logs, but there doesnt seem to be an answer for this. i hope im understanding the problem correctly... you just plug in the choice terms for x, right? thats what i did for each letter choice, but nothing gives me a number = same number for there to be a right answer. maybe your teacher made a mistake? i dunno. sorry :(
