We have a 100 gallon tank in the living room, and it has white crusty junk on the lid, and running down one spot on the front of the tank. Is it calcium?
I've tried plain hot water, vinegar & water, and windex on the front. While it's wet, it appears to be gone, but then as soon as it dries its back again.
How can I safely get rid of that stuff?

it could be lime build up. you should check with the pet shop and if possible bring a sample of it with you. or, you could get some books on aquarium maintenance.

If you use aquarium salt, it could be that. As the water evaporates, the salt kind of "creeps" onto the glass and around the rim of the tank. It is a pain in the behind to clean, but they actually sell stuff at the pet store to get it off- will probably require some "elbow grease"! :o)

Yeah, attempt a calcium/lime/rust remover. it quite is calcium build-up from confusing water maximum possibly. And till you employ a calcium remover this is going to be very confusing back off. in case you took off your bathe head or faucet displays I think of you will see particularly some white stuff on them as properly. CLR could paintings, yet i like Lime-Away. The watery calcium removers do no longer paintings properly. those that have extra the consistency of dish cleansing soap (thicker fluid) tend to paintings extra advantageous. I even use Lime-Away on my glasses to get that white powder out of the backside once you have enable the water sit down in it for too long and hou have confusing water. as long as you rinse the cup and sparkling it solid afterwards it somewhat works nice. you additionally can see approximately getting a water softener. it quite is yet or you ought to get rid of it so which you do no longer could desire to scrub the calcium strengthen off from now on.
