I love the name Lola. I've loved it ever since I read the book Lola Rose by Jacqueline Wilson. Good choice!

Besides the cute sound of it, you have your reasons for naming that for your baby. Just so you know, in Philippine language Lola means Grandmother.

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star, Tony always tended bar
Across a crowded floor, they worked from 8 till 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

Love it. Definitely one of those old-fashioned choices that still manages to be completely spunky. ;)
You might also consider using it as a nickname (as it originated), but with the obvious similarity to other less formal options currently popular -- Lily, Lila and Lucy can all be pet forms as well, after all -- I don't think it's a problem either way.
Edited to add: I've never personally known a hippy or puppy named Lola. LOL Not exactly Sunshine, Rainbow (nature "hippy" names), Lady, Princess or Coco (top 20 dog names LOL).

I like Lola, but it is a nickname for Lolita, which has very strong associations with the book by the same name.
I like the similar names Lucy, Layla, and Delilah.
I hope this helps! :)
