it depends on what the player supports ... some support multiple formats that can be burned simply as data to a disk .. but strict dvd format is mpeg2 in certain resolution and bitrate ranges ..

Your question is not specific enough to give you a simple answer.

If you mean video DVD, as in one that will play in any set top DVD player, one must "author" the DVD using MPEG2 video and proper audio streams packaged in the proper formats. It's not as simple as "put this file onto DVD and voila". Though Nero and EZ DVD Creator sometimes make it look that simple. In actuality there are quite a bit of conversion and re-encoding involved. As for what formats are compatible, that depends on the program you're using to do the conversion!

it really depends on what you mean. most ppl don't ask the correct question. you can burn any file format or file or data onto any medium like a cd, dvd, thumb drive, etc

are you asking how to make a dvd with video that will actually PLAY in your DVD player? if so then you need to convert it into a usable format as dvd players are not computers.

they can't just magically play a data dvd that has a file on it in quicktime format of some video you made.

if this is so then you need to re-ask
