It is ture that halloween costumes are very expensive and rip easily! anyway you should go to your local good will or thrift shop and get a dress then depending on the look of your dress be what you want (fairy, princess, dead or alive prom queen) It is really fun soo be creative! and i think there is no age to stop trick or treating soo yeah!!!! be 16 and go trick or treating awesome and good luck!

You can be a sociopath, and look like everyone else. JK.
Biker Chick! Rip up some old jeans, and put mock grease stains on them. Take a new pair of mens tighty whities (but you really want black ones) and cut a slit in the crotch and use the leg holes as arm holes, the waist band goes around the lower part of your rib cage (wear it backwards) and voila a biker chick tank top. Some sort of combat boot or hiking boot, lots of bronzer on your face, and a bandanna holding your hair down.
Don't forget the leather jacket.

I don't know if this will help but it certainly was funny - a couple years ago a friend of mine dressed up as a sexy young mrs claus - with the whole short red skirt and everything, stockings and she wore red high heels with bells wrapped around her ankles and carried around candy canes. 16 is not to old to dress up for Halloween, I'm 21 and have two kids of my own going trick or treating, the friend I mentioned is the same age as me and has a 6 year old son.

Go to party city and by a 10 to 20 dollar mask. They look really cool and they count as a costume!

I'm 16 too! I still trick-or-treat also, and my costume is a dead soccer player. Try something stylish, and then put fake blood, rip it, or do something else to it to make you look dead,or whatever. Last year I was a hip pi. It's fun! Pop star, something dead. a dead cheerleader is a cool costume, too. What ever you like to wear, then do something to it to make it look scary, or sexy- depends on if your trick-or-treating or going to a party.
Well, hope you have fun!
(I know I will!)

Be something from the 60s or 70s. you could easily go to a good will and pay 10 dollars for a complete outfit. Sometimes good will has special sales on holidays!
