I think you are correct at 7 years but to be safe call your local IRS office and then your state as well ( If your state has taxes ) They will give you the correct and safe answer.

I have every one I have filed since I was 18 years old and that's quite a few LOL. I don't really think I need to keep them but sometimes I enjoy looking back and seeing how little money I made some lean years and how far I have come.

Dang... I hate tax time! I always do our taxes, but I told my husband the other day that this year someone else will do them! I have always heard that they should be kept for at least 7 years, but I'll bet I have kept mine for over 20 years.

You are supposed to keep them for 10 years, bank statements and medical record copies 5 years, same with paycheck stubs.
I don't know if I'll file taxes this year since I only made like $77.50 this year :(

Most accountants recommend you file in January or February and keep copies of your returns for at least 10 years.

I think it is recommended that you keep them 10 years, but I get paranoid and keep mine forever. When I die my whole basement and attic will be full of old tax returns (if I live that long).
