None of the miracle chemicals to spontaneously clean your tank actually work. They are scams that only mask the problem, and create innumerable others (such as nitrate poisoning, chemical imbalances, and others).

The only real way to remove nitrates is through religious weekly maintenance (removing 15-30% of the water weekly). This will eliminate any issues with high nitrate. Email me if you have any questions.

EDIT: Plants absorb nitrate, ammonia, and nitrite and secrete ammonia (which is later converted to nitrate). Adding plants for the sole purpose of lowering (more like keeping in check) nitrate is not a good idea, as you will likely be disapointed with the results.

Regular water changes. Also plants do not remove nitrates. They remove ammonia and nitrite. I think plants add to nitrates

Try not to use those Nitra-zorb crap. It might be cheaper if you just change 25% of the water every week.
