Basically, I entered and left the journalism business at about the same time (ok, 1 year). The money wasn't good enough.
Two years later I have a good job but don't love it like I loved journalism. Is there a way I can be discovered if I write a sports column per day in a blog? (I'll be able to do that around my work schedule)

Blogs probably aren't going to get it done. You need to work for a legitimate news organization. Try doing some freelance work in your area, and see where it leads.
