I live in Irving, Texas and I want to know: is a spring assisted knife considered a switchblade?
-If you don't already know, "switchblades" have many terms and meanings depending on where you live, and in Texas, its legal to possess one but illegal to carry.
-Spring assisted knives are knives with a thumb or index finger stub to "push" out the blade and flick of the wrist will pull the rest out and lock it in place or it will go all the way by its self.
So, can I carry a spring assisted knife?

In Texas a spring assisted knife is legal. An automatic is not.
An assisted knife requires the blade movement be initiated manually. An automatic merely requires the push of a button or lever. Get your facts straight.
Spring assisted knives have a spring that does assist the opening once the blade movement has been manually initiated.
Curiously enough, it is legal to PURCHASE full autos in Texas and to keep them for collection purpose but not to carry. In fact the giant knife store "House Of Blades" on west loop 820 in Ft Worth has over 70 different models of full autos, from the classic cheap Italians to German silver and stag models ranging past the $300.00 mark. Sorry I didn't see your question before all the armchair nimnulls with know knowledge of the law or knives chimed in.

from what i know, i do not think it is legal to carry such a knife.
~ ~ (11) "Switchblade knife" means any knife that has a blade that folds, closes, or retracts into the handle or
sheath, and that:
~ ~ ~ (A) opens automatically by pressure applied to a button or other device located on the handle; or

Assisted opening knives are not legal in all states, but I am not from Texas so I cannot tell you. Don't go to your police, trust me. They immediately assume you have one already, or know someone who does. If it is illegal, they tend to watch you closely. So check anonymously with a local or state official.
Best of luck, (I love fury knives,)
John.
