It really is difficult to remain unbiased when it comes to discussing Americans. They arrogate to themselves the right to act as this planet's policeman, to condemn other countries for real or perceived breaches of human rights and to rail against forms of government which in American eyes are less democratic than theirs. As Americans are such good Christians, surely they know the passage in the Bible that says: "O thou hypocrite, before thou wouldst remove the splinter from thy brother's eye, attend to the beam in thine own eye!" Never has a passage from the Bible been more apt. So naturally do Americans become defensive when their own shortcomings are pointed out to them, because to face the truth would be unbearable.
Which other self-proclaimed peace-loving country has waged so many wars against smaller defenceless countries, has allowed the members of their military to commit atrocity after atrocity going back to WW2, the Korean War, Vietnam, and now Iraq?
In what other country do you need to be a millionaire or at least be able to raise millions in order to be elected to parliament or chief executive?
Where else on this globe has the education system broken down and/or deteriorated to such an extent that children no are no longer able to read and write or do simple arithmetic and need to take remedial classes upon entering college?
In which other country with the exception of certain Middle Eastern nations does a small fundamentalist religious minority have the power to manipulate both government and the media to enforce a Victorian concept of morality upon an unwilling population?
I could go on and on, but let this suffice.
No wonder Americans are sensitive when it comes to discussing their shortcomings

Thank you, that is a wonderful summary. As you can see from many of the responses, denial is still the first choice of many (republican) Americans.

I am an American. I can see what kind of a reaction we are getting from all over the world. I suppose our government deserves to be reminded about a few very important things in international law... I just do not see what people of America have to do with it. I personally do not know anyone who voted for our current fool of a president, therefore we should not be responsible for his debacles. We did try to do everything we could to stop him... It was never our idea to invade any country. We want peace. However, when you throw WW2 in our face, I do have to draw the line. Atrocities of that war were of German making. We were the good guys. Do check your history, before attacking us. Our education system is not broken down. We have many types of schools that give a pretty good education for the people who care to study. I also have no idea where did you get these bits about "remedial classes upon entering college". As a college graduate, I have never heard of it in my life. Please, do not compare us to third world countries for the simple reason that we do have a constitution and are an independent republic state (not a monarchy for God sakes, not unlike many countries in the world). BTW, do you seriously believe that rulers of any country in the world are poor? lol World is ruled by very rich and powerful. Wars are created for their need of power and resources. Do not blame the peaceful population of America for sins of our bloodthirsty government: we hate them just as much as you do. I guess it is easy to stereotype all American people without knowing exactly what is going on in our country. However, as an intelligent individual, you owe that to yourself to open your mind and learn things before you speak of them. BTW, is your own country a perpetual paradise? Do you live your life problem free? Do not look for the proverbial splinters in my eyes, when you should be attending to the beam in your own.

While you re intent on running down Americans as a whole, think about this -- The Americans have baled out many countries (even our enemies) by providing them with funds to rebuild after wars, disasters etc. Who are the first to come to the aid of countries during disasters, Americans. Who started the Red Cross, Americans. Who provides Doctors without borders, Americans. I too could on and on and show you, who appears to be a very narrow minded individual another side of the picture.

Shortcomings, Americans have plenty, but they are still the greatest people on earth when it comes to helping others and those in need.

I would like to tell you what to do with your question, but that wouldn't be very American.

Another basher of Americans. Are we surprised? Not. What you post here is your opinion only not backed by facts. I think you need to look at the world's history. No country or nation is perfect. The USA may have problems but it is still the best place to live. And you dont see the USA asking anyone for help to fix our problems.

After reading some of the answers to this which you have posted so many times, in so many categories, I do believe you have aroused a spirited sense of patriotism in my countrymen. That is not what you intended, though, is it?

You asked this question yesterday. It would help if you can think up something more orginal.
Each country has it's good and bad points(mine included), but I'm sure that Americans won't take too kindly to their country being crapped on like this.
Well, think about it.

If America is so bad, why do the foreigners put their lives at risk(some die)to live here? The foreigners that trash America are the ones that want to live here.
