Hi, I'm a 16 yr old teenager, I'm way into film and drama, and have decided that that's the stuff that I want to do in life.
I've had some really amazing experiences with film that have really changed me, so I started wondering how I could do this for a living. do you have to go to college?
I certainly don't have to be the next Julia Roberts, but i would like to earn enough for a living.
I'm fine with either film or drama, is it hard to find proper work?
plus: does anyone here know eg what a typical day is like?
Is it very hard? and what kind of person do you have to be: attractive and very sociable, or can you just be yourself??

I am the same way you are
yes college is a must!
you will learn to act and sing and dance if you want to be in musicals. My voice teachers son (he was on CSI) is on his way to fame and she told me some things about it. She said its very hard to find a steady job and you sometimes have to do a lot of odd jobs on the side. If you want to be famous and act in movies or on Broadway head to NY. You can also make a comfortable, and maybe even a little more regular living in a big theater in your area. It takes a lot of hard work and commitment. In my first play I was an ensemble member in Bugsy Malone. After school I went to practice for a few hours and all weekend I was there. I can't even imagine what Broadway would be like. I would still give up a winning lottery ticket to be on broadway NOT KIDDING! You have to LOVE it. You have to want to be their more than anything else in the world. If you get frustrated thats ok. But if you ever feel like leaving the theater life, in my opinion, you don't deserve to be there. Ok, enough of my corny and dramatic (yet true) statment about passion.
Be YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The people will judge you the moment they see you. Don't be someone your not they know if your being fake. Being attractive is a big thing for me I know I'm not gorgeous and i am afraid this will create obstacles but their are stars who have worked around this.
I wish you the best of luck
maybe ill see u there someday.

Hi. I am a retired actor who helps people become actors. I would like to hear about your experience on stage and in film.NO, it is better if you do not go to college if you want to be a film actor. And, yes, it is very hard to find work. A typical day in an actor's life is trying to find work. A typical day as a film actor is up before 5am to get to the set, do costume and make up, wait most of the morning for the production crew to be ready for actors. Perhaps run through a scene and film it before noon. Eat on the set. Wait hours for the crew to be ready for actors, run through and film a scene in the afternoon, repeat. If you are lucky you will be dismissed at a reasonable hour to go home and get ready for the next day, if you are lucky enough to have that big a role. It is very easy, very boring. I found it great fun.
You can be yourself, but yourself needs to be a very nice person. For more information and an offer for free help with your career, read my profile., Then write me at my aol address if you have any other questions.
