A nurse will do the enema, but you have to request it.
If you are thinking of getting an enema to try to avoid "pooping" during labor it might not work. There's no guarantee you won't still push out some fecal matter.
And the enema itself is pretty messy and embarrassing. And it will cost you more money.

I didn't get an enema and if you are afraid of pooping on the table, don't be odds are if you get an enema you are more likely to poop only it won't be an easy to clean up mess. I would opt out of the enema if possible. good luck :)

Fortunately they don't do those routinely anymore.
I do know that your body is equipped to work quite well at producing loose stools often as labor approaches or during labor. This can be an early sign of impending labor too, so be aware and make a mental note. ;)
If you are being induced, and they want to do one, you have every right to decline one. Your body would not always have the time to properly cleanse itself (by moving the bowels) if you're being induced, but you may, it just depends.
If you are choosing a hospital birth, think about and have notes about what you want and don't want to happen (flexibility is key here though). Don't be afraid to speak up and make sure you have someone there to speak on your behalf in case you're in the middle of a contraction. LOL
Congratulations and God's blessings to you!

Enemas are not routinely performed at most hospitals these days, you get one only if you request one. There is no medical benefit in having one.
But if you do have one, the nurse administers it.

they don't always give you an enema at delivery is what i've heard. if you think you'll need one you should probably do it at home before you go in lol.

to the best of my knowledge this is no longer practiced, I know it isn't in canada anyway, If they did still do it, its likley that a nurse would do it though. They get all that type of stuff but sadly not much glory or even acknowldegement,
PS if you do poop on teh table you won't even notice, your focus will be on something much better and certainly way more exciting.
