you need to download the drivers for your sound card. Go to the manufacturer's website and download them there.

Hi Friend,
As I am a technical person I will advice u to plzz check weather
the sound device is installed properly or not to check that right click on my computer = select properties = u will see a system property window click on hardware, in hardware tab click on device manager, a new window opens Device Manager. Here in device manager u can see your system hardware status, where all devices r installed or not, if u r able to understand device manager then it is fine, and if not please email me the snap shot of your device manager so that i can help u further.

Thanks

Install a sound card or check to see if your card has drivers for XP installed. Check your event viewer or device manager for error messages.

Go to Start --> Run, and type in services.msc.

A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio. Right-click
and click on Properties.

Make sure that "Startup type" is set to automatic. Also, make sure, under "Service
status," start is selected.
