But it is stated on teletext that a child in Britain goes missing every five minutes and one hundred thousand disappear in a year. We never hear about all of these children, why is the McCanns case so different.

You have hit the nail dead centre. It is against the laws of this country to leave children under the age of 13 alone. Sometimes I break this law. I've been a single dad since 2000. My daughter is 11 not 4 and I'm pretty confident that she would not set the house on fire while I go to the offy to get a beer. Half an hour at the most. In a foreign country, where child-care is easily and readily available, you go out on the lash for several hours leaving 3 small children unattended and then want our sympathy? At the very least the Maccas should be facing 5 years for child neglect. The sooner the British press stop reporting this tut, the sooner we can get down to the serious issue of neglect. I fought a long and painful court case with my ex-wife to prevent her taking our daughter to Uganda (the country of their birth) two years ago. The police in this country have a justifiable case for prosecution for neglect and the only thing that is keeping the Maccas out of court is the fact that they are well off and kicking up a stink about it. Witness the story of the granny who let the pit-bull in on her grand-daughter and apply the same treatment to these guys. If you have children in your care, YOU take responsibility for them and YOU look after them.

I have given up answering questions on the McCann case, as most of the questions are designed to be provocative.
However, as you are asking a factual question, I shall give it my best shot.
Only 6 children per year in the whole of the UK are abducted by strangers (remember the little girl in the bath last year?). The stastics apply to all children under the age of 18, and almost all of those are runaways or children caught in the centre of custody battles.
The McCanns case is different because it is so horrific and rare. Also, the parents have used the media to attract attention to finding their daughter. The internet has caught on and it is the subject of much discussion, much of it scandalous and speculative - again raising questions about the case. The case is also controversial, as some people think the parents were negligent and got what they "deserved".
But at the heart of this case is an innocent little girl. Every missing child is a tragedy, is someone's sorrow. I wish I knew what to do to help.

There's missing and missing. A large proportion of 'missing' children are assumed to be with their non-custodial parent. Another group is teenagers who have run away from home. Then there are a few who go missing for an afternoon or a day and are found safe and sound.

There are very few who disappear in mysterious circumstances in a foreign country where the parents are bound by laws we don't understand.

This case is different because there were 3 children in a room and only one was taken. It happened abroad.

The parents, instead of being devastated, managed smiles and laughter within hours of her missing.

Begged for money from the public and got it. Went globe trotting. Never once searched for their child themselves.

Got a top team of protectors for themselves, when they should have used everybody as a search party for their child.

The other children that have gone missing have respectable hard working parents, who wouldn't dream of begging for money, who DO physically search for their own children.

That is the difference.....Normal loving parents are not media news, their tears are too many, their hearts broken, their lives devastated and on hold, until their child is found.

Because Gerry and Kate courted the media from day one, and the vultures are staying on this case for the grand finally.
every body knows that the maccanns are hiding something, and given all the high profile globe trotting by the maccanns, this is big news and there is an even bigger ending to come with it.
The sad thing is that there is a dead l child by the name of Madeleine , and the parents and the media are cahing in on it.

Most abductions are family abductions by one parent with non-custodial rights and who want to get even at the other parent; the parent is not hurting the child and they have a good idea where the child is so they don't see fit to publicize it all over the world. Madeleine's circumstances are very rare.

all these other missing children don't have the weight of the British Government behind their parents either. neither do they have parents who immediately start begging for money as soon as the child disappears. in fact, most of the missing children probably have *normal* parents and thats probably why they don't hit the news.

Unfortunately the media normally lose interest very quickly if there's no new developments in a missing child case. If it's out of the news, then people don't read or hear about it and the parents of all those missing children don't have the financial backing or political clout to keep the police/media focused on their cases.

the reason is that there are financier interests.! why? i dont know. but this case dont have to be in that way. I really dont give importance to this cas because there is something dark.
I prefer to be pending of other children who also are missing
