Technically they tax our paycheck but if we take the right withholdings we shouldn't have to pay at the end of the year.
Between sales taxes, property taxes and personal taxes we end up taking home only about 60% of the income we work very hard for. and Congress wants to take more!
In the 50s they took only 4% from our entire check then the Great Society of Johnson's came in and welfare, medicare, mediaid and all the other social stuff came into play and people said, 'oh yes, please take our money so we can help the poor' and the poor is still with us just on a higher level than in the 60s.

3 times or more? let me clue you, with all the embedded taxes already included in the price before you ever get to the checkout counter it's more like 7 or more times. With state and federal taxes coming out of your check plus more state taxes when you buy goods and added federal taxes included in the price of everything you buy it's estimated you actually get to keep about 32% of your pay check. WHY so little? The goverment is wasteful and greedy

Because 'we' as a whole have allowed it over the years.
The Federal tax was put into place only temporarily to help relieve the the funding of WWII. When the war was over, the tax was to stop, but when no one complained about paying into the Feds they continued the tax.

1 & 3 are the same so that doesn't count.
if you were ony taxed on earned income there would be less incentive to save money. By taxing on purchases the Govt has the option to not tax things like children's clothes and food and to increase the tax on cigarettes etc that are economically harmful further down the line.

If you only want to get taxed once, don't spend anything.

Personally I dislike being taxed on interest on savings but that's only fair really so I suck it up.
