people use each other all the time in many different ways, shapes and forms. It all depends on the person's morals. How people view the marriage and whether contract marriage is morally wrong.

Are you insane? I am serious here, are you insane, this is the most absurd thing I have ever heard of. That is spitting in the face of everything that marriage stands for. Not only that, it why get married to make more money when your so called wife is getting a cut of what you make, not to mention that your taxes are going to go up. You are not going to make more money, you in fact will make less.
Then there is the fact that marriage is about two people who LOVE each other, and I stress the word LOVE, want to spend the rest of their lives together, sharing all of lifes ups and downs.
This is an insult to anyone who is married, and yes, I am happily married and I feel like you are just spitting on my wedding vows with this one.

I think its getting married for all the wrong reasons......
And - if the military finds out - he could be up for an Article 32 hearing for defrauding the government (but it'd be dang near impossible to prove).
As a former Army officer - I do have to say I've seen it done more than once! I've even seen it done with two active duty personnel so that they could BOTH get out of the barracks and then they just each kept their own part of the BAS payment.
I don't really see it as any different than those guys who were stationed in Europe or Korea and "fell in love" with a local girl and get married ....... He gets an increase in pay and gets out of the barracks, she gets a free meal ticket to the states, often an accelerated route to citizenship, and health / dental to boot !

Stupid. Takes the whole meaning out of Marriage. Marriage is a very important thing. Doing something like that ruins the whole meaning. If he wants more money, he should find something else to do. If she wants health insurance, find a job that offers it. Marriage is supposed to be full of love and support. Something two people do when fully in love. Things like this ruin the true meaning of marriage.

People have been marrying for such reasons since marriage began. It's not romantic, but more practical. If both parties are kewl with it then I figure it's their business....however I do consider it 'settling' from a romance/love point of view but to some emotion isn't as important as material things.

I knew a lot of guys that did get married for convenience and there's no law that says you can't get married. But if you're thinking on doing this then you can also deal with divorce or even a cheating spouse.

It is morally wrong and there will be major problems if the military finds out. I live in a navy town and I've seen it happen a few times. Th government will come after you if they feel you committed fraud.

It's fraud plain and simple and if it is found out that is the only reason for the marriage, he could be given a dishonarable discharge and/or court marshalled, along with fines etc...... not worth it. It's insurance fraud and allotment fraud. This kind of fraud is a felony.
