WEll, I spend so much time on a computer doing business that there was a time I didn't want to see one after work..then I got into on-line Bridge...and then I found Yahoo answers, but was just about to abandon that until I found the seniors section..you will have to admit, we have some fun here. I guess that I love writing long, intense emails to friends, (I warn them to divide in parts and read over several days :-)
Peace, Goldwing

Since I have been using computers for almost 15 years I will admit that the Internet has saved me many a trip to the local library. The information out there on any subject is just too much to mention.
I learned about penpals (that was short lived by me).
And after all these years, just 3 months ago I decided to find out what yahoo answers was all about. I like it. It allows communicating without getting too personal. No prying questions. No, lets get together. No, are you happy with your marriage. Just all around fun asking questions. I'll admit. I am really lost trying to follow the story line with some of you folks. There was a lady by "eyedontnose" who disappeared, but I sensed a lot of support for her. But then again, some seem to have come back and I am at a lost as to their history in this group. I will join answering questions and maybe drop a question, but I'll remain as an observer. I think I am out of your league.

E-mails are great. Much better than phone calls.

But the thing I have loved the best is that I'm finally writing my book. I know, I keep saying that, but it's nearly done and it has to be put online for publication.

I also love the way it has opened up the world to right here in front of me. No more hours of sorting through books and other things. I just type it in and it's there! Cool!

There are oodles of other things I want to do, but got to get the book out of the way first. Then I'm going to get a new Computer and open up the rest of the world.

As soon as I learned the
computer, I went nuts. It's like
I have been waiting all my life
for this incredible device.
I can go anyplace in the world. I can learn anything I
want. I can join forums and
blogs. I can get instant
news. I can listen to my favorite radio stations (that I
can't hear on the radio.)
I can listen to CDs.
I think Flickr is the greatest.
there's a never ending view
of photos from everywhere,
and you can even talk to the
photographer.
My neighbors can't understand how I can spend
so much time on here.
I decided it was my day off
so I started on here at 11am
and it's now 4:50pm. I get
so I eat while typing.
Is that a fixation? Don't tell
me the truth, I don't want to
know.

This may seem sad, but the ability to do word processing and to organize and store my documents has been one of my most pleasurable experiences with my computer. I remember the days of using a typewriter....where my mistakes often led to doing the entire page over again. I love being able to 'search' for my documents without physically looking through hard copy files.

The other thing I've loved, is related to the internet. I've been a part of several internet forums, and the experiences have been terrific. I'm acquainted with people from all over the world.

Editing photographs is so easy and fun. EBay is great for finding bargains, I always check there for things I need. I found a couple of old school friends and we had a reunion, great ! Got to know my partner over the Internet, fantastic ! Love being able to communicate so easily and quickly with family, send pics instantly. How did we ever live without them ?

I'm always amazed when people my age say "its too hard to understand how to use a computer"....for our generation its the best thing ever.

Well, email is what I use the most. I have also been doing some genealogy, and I cancelled my newspaper home delivery since I can read it free online. I am able to research medical questions, find help with gardening problems and I also enjoy the folks here on this site. I will admit that I am not as computer savy as my father, but someday I will be!

Oops..... I forgot .... Ebay!

The most fun thing I experienced on the computer at first was a chat room. The fighting in there got so bad I left and don't do chat rooms at all. I've spent the past few years researching for my family (anything they needed researched) looking for jobs for out of work people I've learned about, and just reading about anything I please. It is amazing to be able to type any word or topic into google and get so many responses. Sadly, my memory is bad now and I can't recall it! haha!

I love to edit photos and do computer graphics. My project at the moment is doing a slide show for my mothers future memorial. She has Alheimer's and is in a nursing home. Her religion do not allow medicine. Only prayer. I keep expecting her to go, but she wants to stick around earth a little while longer!

Now I am addicted to Yahoo! Answers and can't seem to do anything else in my spare time.
