The fish's growth quite a bit and the lump in the chin looks like it has a rock or something lodged in its throat but it still eats and stuff.

What kind of Africans? It sounds like they may be carrying their eggs. Female mouthbrooding Cichlids will incubate their eggs in their mouths until they are ready for the male to "share" his milt with the female. When this occurs, the eggs will be fertilized and the fry will soon be born (and still get carried around in the mother's mouth for a while). yes it is normal because if this African cichlid is a female the bump under its chin that lookes like a rock in her throat is probably eggs. Some African cichlids are mouth breeders and hold their eggs in their mouths.

I know that their mouths will get raw from lip locking"kissing" with others in the tank. But if you think it might be a illness chesk out this link, it is the best one I've found for troubleshooting fish illnesses.
