like a pair of mittens or whatever, or just the dry gloves?

Some may wear a lycra type glove for fit and comfort . This will have no additional thermal protection .

Depends on the type of suit they belong to (and circumstances.

Usually the gloves are it. Some prefer to wear thin sweat absorbent gloves.

depends on how cold the water is and the length of dive.you can wear a thin pair of thermal gloves if very cold water but usually the gloves are enough on their own.some drysuite divers will wear a kind of thin thermal pair of longjohns as well but again it depends on the temp.of the water.

If the gloves have an internal liner, this is usually sufficient and an additional layer/glove is not required.

If the gloves do not have an internal liner, then an additional layer is required.
