I love the idea of reversing your mom's name, and Helen is both beautiful and meaningful. ;)

If you're not opposed to using a variation, I might use the full Helen Susanna. Or even Helena Susanne (though I love simply Helen). I can understand if you simply want to keep the exact names, but I would personally use a formal version of Sue. Just a personal preference.

Either way, it's a wonderful choice. Love it! ;)

Edited to add: I wouldn't worry a bit about Helen seeming "old-fashioned!" It's a classic that has been among the most popular names -- around the 350s or higher -- every single year since 1880! Pretty much the definition of a timeless classic. Definitely not dated to any one time period and perfectly fitting with the old-fashioned revivals currently familiar (or even popular). Not every child has to be named Emily -- though that's equally "old" LOL -- or Nevaeh. ;) You go ahead and use a name with some real significance! It's a wonderful idea.

No offense to your late mom but the name Helen is a bit dated for a first name. I'd go with Sue Helen or a variation of Sue as the first name - something like Suzanne or Suzanna or Suze or Suzi, You would still be paying tribute but the first name would be more modern and versatile.

It is a wonderful thought to give your child your moms name. I like it better the way you have done it.

My mom died at 45 before my kids were born. Her name was Margaret (Peggy) and it was my first name and I HATED it but went by my middle name (my moms choice) any way long story short, I named my first daughter after her, but I at least made it her middle name LOL, I had to pass on a part of her to my daughter. And now that I am an adult I do not hate the name any longer though I still choose not to go by it.

I'm not a fan of older names like Helen or Sue. But how about just using the initals.
Like an S and an H.

Samantha
Shiloh
Sara

& Hailey
Hannah
Heather

etc.

i am a fan of older names.... and i like Helen Sue.... i think naming her after your mother is a good thing to do... and the fact that you switched it around won't make it weird for anyone... (like your brothers/sisters, father, close family friends and extended family) good luck to you and congratulations!

Doesn't flow, but not bad.
Helena Sue or Helene Suzanne sounds better to me.

Several times children 'fall victim' to being named after their grandparents and that was all good back in the day but take it from me- a girl named after gran...whilst it is an honor to be my grandmother's namesake..ppl often invision me as a 50+ year old woman of a different race... and I was the only kid in any school and job with that name -not to diminish the memory of your mother but you might want to think about that but perhaps you can make that her middle name?

Why not use the initials instead?

Hayden
Hayley
Heidi
Hilda
Helena
Hilary

The middle name Sue goes with those.

Best wishes!
