if it was a $5,000 government bond which matured by the time the kid was old enough for college... I might see something in that. But to just give out money seems strange. The family will most likely have that money spent by the time college years roll around, and really, how will that help benefit the kid? They'd be just as poor going into uni with the $5,000 "donation" at birth than they would be without it, as in either case it most likely wouldn't exist in their bank account.
And what would happen if the kid died? Would the family have to give that money back to the government?
Would single moms be penalized against getting this money if they can't keep a relationship going? Would women have kids and then give them up for adoption, just so they could pocket $5,000 per kid?
What has happened to accepting responsibility and supporting yourself, in this country? Granted, inflation is pretty bad... but can't people move on to new jobs which paid better, in order to make their own way in this world?
I think both those ideas are only ways to buy votes... I'm curious as to how they would be acted out. But other than the government savings bond thought, I'm against this.

It did take a lengthy time period did not it? i do not study about "vote paying for". If there have been a huge discrepancy between the polls and the truly vote, perchance it may be truly worth searching into any irregularities, yet Obama gained by using a (somewhat) smaller than projected margin in NC, and IN performed out very nearly precisely as envisioned.

Some ignorant ones! Thankfully the baby bond is gone. She may spin this but she probably noticed that 2/3 of Americans were against it.
Hillary is a disaster in every way!

Sounds like a bribe, why can't they just give everyone 5000.00 or 1000.00 without anything tied to it .

Good ideas get votes, they don't have to be sold.
I don't see any solutions/plans coming from the GOP crowd.
What a useless bunch!
