when you vacuum, does it catch things better when its on floor or carpet on the floor. Sometimes when I vacuum and I have it on floor on the floor it doesn't work. Some times when I have it on floor on the carpet it works....?? Help!

It depends on the attachment you are using. The beater bar is for carpet and the hose attachments are for bare floors...

When it's on "floor" the beater bars don't whirl, it's just suction. That's to avoid scratching the floors. If you are using the "carpet" setting on the floor, you are also sweeping with the brushes....be careful.

Now as for using the "floor" on the carpet, that's suction and not bad for a quick clean up. Also better to use initially if you have thread or dog/cat hair to pick up. Suction first and then go back and use the "carpet" setting. This way the beater bar/brushes don't become as clogged with dog hair or threads which can entangle the beater bar, burning out bearings or tearing apart your machine's belt.

The floor & carpet setings you asking about ,adjusts the hight of the vacuum, the brush may be worn out, and I would also check for clogs under the vac where the hose conects and the hose itself
