Marc Bolan is on of my heroes. I keep a blown up image of his face on the Slider album on the cover of my school binder actually. He never found success in America except for "Get It On" and only after they made him change the name to the more conservative "Bang A Gong (Get It On)". But in England "T.Rextasy" was almost as big as Beatlemania and T.Rex could hardly have been bigger, and rightfully. His simple arrangements with his thick "crunchy" guitar riffs with his wispy voice and mostly nonsensical lyrics made a killer combination. A huge influence on the developing punk movement he was actually doing a comeback tour (with I think the Damned and Generation X?) with his punk rock buddies when the car (was it his wife who was driving?) he was a passenger in crashed into a tree. But he certainly left an impressive body of music behind, and T.Rex will always be one of the great overlooked artists in music history as far as I'm concerned.

Wonderful.

Marc Bolan (born Mark Feld; 30 September 1947 - 16 September 1977), was an English singer, songwriter and guitarist whose hit singles, fashion sensibilities and stage presence with T Rex in the early 1970s helped cultivate the glam rock era and made him one of the most recognisable stars in British music of the time.

He was the leader of T. Rex. Unfortunately after their only hit, Bang a Gong, he was killed in a car accident.
