tickling their feet helps. What I did, if my son started to fall asleep while eating, I would kind of rub my finger against his jaw line, under his ear, light enough that I wouldn't hurt him, but hard enough to stimulate him and get him to start eating again. It was how to nurse did it in the hospital, so I did it from there. switching positions of the baby will also help, pulling the nipple out of his/her mouth, which will generally wake them up some.... these are all things I tried that worked for me.

If your breast feeding and the baby falls asleep on the breast you can stroke it's cheecks or take the baby off the breast and rub the soles of his feet or gently rubbing the back might wake him up or keep him awake long enough to feed. Had that problem with my son. Rubbing the soles of his feet not hard but with pressure usally did the trick. He hated his feet being touched when he was little also rubbing his cheeck got him to continue sucking as well as trying to unlatch him. This will work for a bottle feed infant as well.

You dont. Unless they have jaundice and you're trying to flush them out (which you'd be in the hospital anyway) you let them feed on demand.
Some newborns sleep and eat every few minutes. They out grow it.
Most newborns nurse every two hours, you start that two hours when they start nursing. So if they nurse for 30 minutes you effectively whipping a boobie back out 1.5 hours later. Its exhausting but normal.
Its normal for them to eat for a few short minutes, fall asleep, and wake up and eat again a couple hours later. Theres no need to keep them awake for the purpose of finishing that whole 2-3 oz's.

supply up giving formulation. there is not any favor for it. Your breast milk is purely superb. My son changed into born 5 weeks early and misplaced 11oz interior 24 hours of start. The medical doctors informed us that we mandatory to supplement with formulation also, yet we did not. My son changed into very confusing to save conscious also. i could take a funky moist washcloth and rub his head with it at the same time as he changed into nursing, and it helped plenty. perchance attempt waking her to feed each and every hour? it truly is what my son's well being care specialist informed me to do when I refused to furnish him formulation. he's now an particularly healthful 22lb 1yo boy. in case you nevertheless use formulation and also you want to breastfeed, your milk furnish would drop because you at the prompt are not breastfeeding sufficient. i could heavily get a 2d opinion and enable the well being care specialist understand how major breastfeeding is to you.

Play with their feet .. rub their head. Any kind of movement that will keep them awake and stimulated. I had the same problem with my son who is now 3 months old.

Don't rock him right before or durning feedings.
Keep him somewhat cool, don't wrap him up in a blanket. Don't wake him from sleep to feed him, wait until he wakes up on his own.

newborns will actually drink in their sleep. just tug the nipple back and forth until the baby grasps it and then when it stops suckling do it again. It will start suckling again.
