In his memoir of the Watergate era, Thompson admits to secretly alerting the White House to key evidence as it was discovered by congressional investigators.

Former Watergate committee investigator Scott Armstrong told ABC News that Thompson's cooperation with the White House undermined the investigation.

"It was the equivalent of two prosecutors knowing about something and one of them going behind the scenes and telling the person being accused what the witnesses were saying about him," Armstrong said.

Nixon's comments on Thompson?

"He's too dumb to beat the democrats but a real friendly guy... very well then."

I'm not sure if you've taken any law classes, but prosecutors must disclose all information they have to the defense and vice versa.

They're not allowed to keep that information secret, it's kind of against the law.

They're called discovery orders and notice to access of evidence requirements.

This is old news. How does this affect Fred's run now? IT DOESN'T. Fred Thompson is clearly the most qualified candidate with the best view of the future for America.

I dont think dregging up the past is a liberals strong point platform considering that Hillary is the front runner candidate now...

We could fill a book of Clinton scandals. You get a "D-" for effort though....

oh good lord! abcnews blog, eh? oh ....my....god! we all know how trustworthy cbs is, no? *lol* they are so into straight up news reporting...they NEVER color a story to suit their agenda, eh?

first let me state without reserve...nixon? one of the best presidents we ever had...and he was cruxified by media who had turned a blind eye to johnson's wrong doing...as well as kennedy's....

oh my! did i say kennedy might not have been as saintlike as many make him out to be??? well yes i did....

but the media loved him....he was left alone....

johnson was the same....

they disliked nixon...and anything they could hang on the man...they did....with glee....does anyone remember who got us into viet nam? you know, by sending military "advisors"? how about the bay of pigs? ring a bell? our sainted president left those men to die on that beach...after promising he would back them up....

to prove, after that little fiasco, that he wasn't a wimp...what did he do??? well he decided to enter us in a tiny little conflict going on in southeast asia.....what a brilliant move on his part....

not only did it stretch into eternity...it cost us how many of our young men? And it failed in the end....

and why did it fail??? because the soldiers never had a chance....not even the most brilliant of strategist could have saved us there....

it failed because media hated the war...

and when nixon came along...it was another thing pinned to his lapel...forgetting totally it was kennedy...and then johnson who upped that ante...and nixon the man who got us out....

he did nothing other presidents before him did not do...media had a heyday...and a president fell....

and to this day? nixon is pariah.....

my goodness! aren't we proud of ourselves for that?

as for the comment he may...or may not have made about fred....*lol* and i am not at all convinced that he did.... so what?

as i used to say when i was oh so much younger....

big hairy deal....*lol*

If we dug that far back into all the candidates closets, there's no telling what we'd drag out.

I have NO problem with it...he admitted it and moved on. He hasn't hired people to cover it up like one Junior Senator we all know...
