I am not sure what to do with my life but I am considering going to pharmacy school. I know that I have to have the prerequisites before being accepted. I have an undergraduated degree in social work, but I did not have to take many science classes and would still need to take many of the prerequisites. I think the only sciences I have taken that would apply to prerequisites is BIOL 101. I do have much of the social science and a little of the math prerequisites. I was just wondering if I should just take the prerequisites at a local college, or would it be better for me to just try to get into a six year program. I was thinking of just starting over and doing the six year program because it probably would take me two years to get the prerequisites done anyway unless i calculated wrong. Is it possible to enter a six year program and get credit for the social science and math courses I took in college even though I graduated?

You really want to have this conversation with the college that has the six year and graduate pharmacy degree. In most cases it is better to do the pre-recs and then go to graduate school (part of this is related to financial aid). But you do want to look at the cost difference as well (grad school is usually more expensive).

But the answer to your question will depend on many factors and so for this you really want to work directly with the school and looking at what is the best option for your situation.

Pharmacy is a hot field to get into, in fact most health care professions are in high demand and only getting higher. Maybe find something that would require less time to train for, pay well and still do the art that you love on the side. Try Nursing or X-Ray techs. The other benefit of healthcare professions is most hospital jobs are 3 - 12 hour shifts a week as full-time. Leaving you with 4 days a week to do your art!! Nursing & X-ray are 2 year degrees with good starting pay. Good luck!!

I don't think the 6 year programs allow people with any college credit to be accepted. If they do accept, you'll lose all your credit. The 6 year programs will only use your high school information for admissions.

Go for the 6 year program. But think of all your options. And if money is not a factor than go for the program. Good luck
