I am sending a letter to my ex landlord who 32 days after we vacated sent us an itemization of security deposit and is charging us for 12 months of water. I am disputing the charges and wrote her a letter but don't know how to close it up. Thanks is advance!

Thank you for your prompt attention to this situation. I will expect to hear back to you by (date).

Give her maybe 2 weeks to respond. You would also be wise to send the letter by registered mail. It will give you documentation if you need to go to small claims court over this.

Insisting on ANYTHING is not a good approach in a letter. Request a prompt reply, but don't insist. You're going to do nothing but irritate the recipient.

The thanking for a prompt reply is OK. Adding a date is just flat out rude.

I personally would not respond at all if an ex-tenant suddenly decided to order me about.

I wouldn't insist either. I would close with something like this:

I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter's resolution. Please feel free to contact me if I can assist in resolving this misunderstanding.

Don't insist. Shows a bad attitude. Kill 'em with kindness! That really pisses them off!
