Off the top of my head I'd say you would have to take at least two buses and probably three buses - one from Croydon to Brixton and then one Brixton to Victoria, then Victoria to Knightsbridge. It will take you in the region of 60-90 minutes I should think

See the Tfl journey planner for more details - http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk

why can't you use the train? Train from West Croydon to London Victoria then the Victoria Line to Green Park and then the Picadilly Line to Knightsbridge.

If you must use a bus then get the 109 from West Croydon and change at Streatham Hill for the 137 which will take you all the way to Knightsbridge. It will take you about 2 hours though.

As you have a computer go to www.tfl.gov.uk and use the journey planner. At the time of writing a 50 min journey

Thornton Heath Clock Tower Stop: E
Take the Route Bus 250 towards Brixton

Streatham Hill Station Stop:
Take the Route Bus N137 towards Oxford Circus

Knightsbridge
Walk to Harrods

There are fuller details on the website including access to maps and whether or not the train or tube would be the better option

The 250/137 combination is the best option, if you are travelling by bus - get off the 137 at the end of Sloane Street.

I always used to prefer the train route, as suggested by Angler, as the route from Victoria runs through Belgravia and is a very pleasant walk.. You could also consider picking up the Victoria Line at Brixton, and changing to the Piccadilly Line at Green Park.
