Money can't buy a championship, but it can make the odds of winning one much better.
As an aside, it's always amusing how some Yankee fans have to fall back on their 26 rings when they get bumped from the playoffs. Like what happened in 1927 or 1961 or 1998 matters today. Every year only one team has bragging rights - the one that wins the World Series. And this year it ain't gonna be the Yankees, Tigers or one of the 27 other non-championship teams.

sometimes money can buy you a glove. the yankees did win many championships because their owner bought the talent on the team instead of let the team grow together through their farm system and trades (companionship). the owner wanted a champion now and thats what he got when he got all of those other yankees championships. all of those players were overpaid and possibly lacked chemistry but they won nevertheless.

Yeah, a gold glove won't get you crazy money but it will give your team a better chance at winning...defense and pitching wins. Everyone needs to learn from the Yankees that all-star offense teams don't work and don't guarantee anything.

Afraid its not completely true. The Yankee championships of the 70's were the result of Steinbrenner opening up the checkbook when the supreme court declared it legal for baseball players to become free agents.

Yes and No. Yes cause the Yankees wouldn't have 26 rings without a 250 million dollar payroll.
No cause look at the Indians they beat the Yankees and are in the NLCS and there not spending 250 million.

NYY just ran into a pitching buzzsaw in Cleveland. I'm sure being a Detroit fan, you can relate to what Cleveland can do to a team.
