A Republican on here just blamed Jimmy Carter for every problem in the 1970's.

Inflation was a problem during the NIXON Administration. It got worse under FORD. Carter inherited the problems created by those guys.

NIXON took the USA off the gold standard, which began the inflation crisis. Under NIXON OPEC cut off oil to America...which lead to the Oil crisis. MOST PEOPLE KNOW THIS...BUT A FEW REPUBLICANS IGNORE IT..AND BLAME CARTER.

Why people blame Jimmy Carter for the problems created by the Republicans is beyond me.

Who can forget Ford and his "Whip Inflation Now" buttons? And then the barking right wing moonbats turn around and blame Carter for the problems he inherited from that nincompoop.

Also, Reagan didn't really lower inflation, his administration just changed the definitions of unemployment and excluded housing costs from the core inflation calculation to create the illusion of lower inflation.

OPEC was the oil issue of the times, Ford froze the dollar to fight inflation without much result. and nobody could have save the Shah without committing troops at that time.

P-nut ..the high tech failure was foreseeable market forces, Bush can have plenty of credit for poor policy, he doesn't need credit for any further failures that book is too full now.

in started in 1973,Carter wasn't elected. The problem is people blame/credit presidents for things beyond their control. Both sides are guilty of it.

yeah... it's the catch-22

they want to take credit for all of Clinton's economic greatness by saying it was Reagan's policies that made it all happen and it "takes time for policy to take effect" (even though the elder Bush clearly handed Clinton a recession... I guess they just ignore that?)

yet, miraculously... Jimmy Carter caused all of his problems with his own policy that somehow magically didn't take any time to take effect and Reagan magically cured when he got into office, with policy that also took no time to take effect?

"magic" policy?

Democrats blame Republicans and Republicans blame Democrats. Blah, blah, blah, blah.... That's the problem with bi-partisan politics, nothing gets accomplished besides finger pointing and placing blame, just like you're doing.

The current situation in the middle east is due in large part to Carter's failure to support the Shah of Iran leading to the revolution there. I also blame him for the other problems you mentioned since I assume you blame Bush for the collapse of the high tech sector.
