Front load Whirlpool Duet. The advantages of getting this type of machine are so great that the old top loaders should be banned.

They use much less water

they use much less detergent

They are easier on the clothes because
the rolling action of the tub does not beat the crap out of the clothes

they may use a bit less electricity

and the bottom line is that they get the clothes cleaner.

Front load; it is really the best machine I have ever had. It is a Maytag Neptune and cleans everything better than my previous top loader. It has a stainless interior and holds a lot of clothes. It has no agitator either and I guess that makes a big difference in how it works.Look in the Consumer Guide to see comparisons if you are thinking of purchasing one over the other style.

Up to a few years ago, top loaders were mostly in the USA, while Europe and the rest of the world used front loaders. The Europeans loved them because they were much more efficient, however, Americans never really adopted them simply because it was seen as a "European" design. In the last few years energy conscious Americans finally began to adopt the front loader. This is relatively new in the US market and anyone who owns one will tell you that it is much better than a top loader.

Oh and I have a front loader.
