There are quite a few versions, but I'm currently acting in the Dietz version, so I'll summarize that.

Setting: London and Transylvania, 1897.

Characters: Count Dracula, Mina Murray, Jonathan Harker, Dr. Jack Seward, Lucy Westenra, Prof. Abraham Van Helsing, Renfield.

Summary: Jonathan Harker goes to Transylvania to help Count Dracula buy property in London, and is severely traumatized by a series of horrifying events.

Later, Dracula appears in London and attacks Lucy Westenra, the best friend of Harker's fiancée, Mina. Lucy has rejected the proposal of John Seward, a young doctor in charge of a lunatic asylum, who, still in love with her, is determined to find the cause of her illness. Puzzled, he contacts his old teacher Dr. Van Helsing, who immediately suspects that Lucy is becoming a vampire.

One of Seward’s patients, Renfield, has a mysterious connection with Dracula, but refuses to explain his cryptic statements about his “Master.”

As Seward and Van Helsing struggle to cure Lucy, Mina brings Jonathan home from a hospital in Budapest. He does not remember any of what has happened, but gives Mina his journal.

The story in Harker’s journal confirms Van Helsing’s suspicions, but they are unable to save Lucy, who becomes a vampire. Van Helsing, Seward, and Harker exorcise Lucy as Dracula turns his attention to Mina.

Mina grows weaker, and an attendant gives Seward the news that Renfield has escaped. While Seward and Van Helsing search for Refield, Dracula kills him and attacks Mina again, this time forcing her to drink his blood. He then returns to Transylavnia, with Van Helsing, Seward, Harker, and Mina in pursuit.

Mina realizes that she has a supernatural connection with the Count, and the others are able to find his whereabouts by hypnotizing her.

In the climactic scene of the play, the foursome destroy Dracula, thus saving Mina and others from Lucy’s fate.
