channel 3 in hartford just reported the mariano rivera just filed for free agency today and said he would refuse to resign with the skankees if joe torre isnt back... hows that grab ya?? the classiest guy on the team and one of the best closers ever leaving your precious yankees... he will be followed by many. dont tell me hes too old, or lost his stuff or any of that other baloney... hes one of the best ever.

Yahoo Sports has the same story up. I don't think it'll make a difference - Steinbrenner isn't one to listen to anyone else if he wants to get rid of someone.

Let him leave the Yankees. Sure he has been great with us, sure I would love to see him back, but he JUST HASNT BEEN GREAT. He is on the downside of his career and noone will pay more money than the Yankees to re-sign Mo.
Lets see how much other teams offer..3.5?...The Yankees would offer...11.5? He will come crawling back to us.

Well get your facts st8 he didn't say he was going to leave he said he wanted to wait and see what they would do. Money talks but so do the pinstripes and he will be in them with a 3 year contract for 36 mill i would guess. Gives him the first year at the new park. Don't forget mariano was hurt at the end of last year and it's still a business but he's not going anywhere
