Hi there.
That is a great question, but it presupposes a state of mind that values possessions. The people you see that appear to have less may feel the opposite, that they have more freedom, more love and more time - what use a huge mansion if you are always working and so never in it?
After a certain point of comfort and security, everything else is a frippery - I could cook you a meal, take you to the seaside on a sunny day, make love to you, watch a movie with you - no amount of money or goods could make any of these things better, they would stand on their true merit.
To people rich in their inner life, that last 10 note in their pocket cannot add to them, but may mean much to someone else, where a rich man could give a thousand and never notice it going - but doesn't. Easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle?
Cheers, Steve.

I have been there. I have been a homeowner with a good job and a family and then I have been homeless with no job, no food, no money and no shelter. I know what it feels like to not only be without but to have people look at you like you are less, to feel like you have no one who cares, to watch your child go hungry and to have no where to sleep and have to go to a church and ask for food. I was blessed by God and now have a job and can rent a house. I will be the first one to make sure I Tithe and to recognize the needs of others. True needs...not wants. I also know that when I give and make someone else feel good, I feel good too. I hope this helps.

Because people who don't have a lot don't have to be obsessed with keeping what they have. For those of you who read the Bible remember the story that Jesus told of the Rich man who can a little compared to what he had and the poor widow who gave more than she could really afford?? Why not share what you have, there's always someone who has less and if you appreciate what you have than you're less like to become complacent with your place in the world. It also proves that you don't have to have a lot to make a contribution to the greater good.

If I may say, though, I know people who do have a lot, and they give a lot away, only to be blessed with more.
But, for those who do fall under the have-less-give-more category, I would agree with pretty much everone else on this board.

I think this is a myth perpetuated by fairy tales. Many wealthy people are incredibly generous givers. Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Rockefeller, etc etc have given billions of dollars to advance education, help the underprivileged, fund research to help cure diseases, and advance human rights throughout the world, however most of what is given by the wealthy is never publicized.

because they have less they realize how hard it is to get what they have.. so because they have more then the next person they feel the need to help them because they know just how hard their situation is.
where as a person who is rich.. might give less but not necessarily because they are just putting peoples poorness down to laziness.. so they may think why should they give to someone who doesn't deserve it.. or it could be that they don't realise how horrible it is to be in the poorer persons circumstance, more unqualified about the situation, so they dont really know or believe they want as much as they make out.
where are you getting this info from anyways about rich giving less? is it just what you believe to be true?
i dont think it is true... but just in case it does have some light i have posted my suggestions.

Some people born to give to others,it shows inner strength. Many people have habit of taking.Giving is inborn quality and such persons make us believe that God is there!its difficult to give or help some one.!
Mahavir, lord buddha, mahatma Gandhi,Mother terresa, are few examples of persons, who gave so much to the world.

The poor understand the need and the value of sharing. (which in the end helps both parties)
The rich usually get that way through aggressive competition and being miserly and those well established habits are hard to break.

They don't have as much to be selfish about.
Although--that's a generalization. Bill Gates gives TONS. He even goes to third world countries and visits poor and ill people on a regular basis.
