I read today about the Cleveland high school shootings and within that article they noted that despite what people may think, school shootings/killing are rare [mathematically].

OK, I realize today's media coverage allows us to know much more quickly what is happening everywhere - however, do you remember ANY school shootings/killing When YOU were growing up and in high school? Did you EVER hear of kids bringing guns to school? Was I just sheltered?

Would really like to hear your take on this. It breaks my heart that children today don't seem to have coping skills with life's challenges.

I think we have to find a better way to get through to these kids. Its obvious some parents like to put the blame on schools or racism. we need to realize education starts at home. It all starts with the parents.

We never had school shooting when I grew up. And I was again, shocked to see the morning headlines about an hour ago. No, you were not sheltered, I can't imagine any of the people in my age group taking guns to school. This is a scenario which goes on and on. And apparently, according to Media Reports he had being suspended. So one has to ask why?. Was he so out of control for the school to take such action? I am so sorry for his parents, but then again, could they not see that their child had problems, and do something about it, before this tragedy?

This latest school shooting really hit close to home this time, because I lived just east of Cleveland all my life until I moved to South Carolina last year. The number of school shootings is rising & it's scary. When I was in school, there were no students bringing guns to school. When a student was suspended from school, he stayed home, then returned to school when the suspension was over. Students didn't come back to school with guns because they were upset about a suspension.

Totally blows my mind, in our little community when a boy was old enough to hunt he had his own gun,, It's a mental thing "guns are for hunting or sports shooting, not hunting people". Otherwise, join the service -- sooner or later you'll get a chance to plunk away at something that shoots back -- not kids. Our country is really going through some nasty growing pains right now.

The worst thing that ever happened when I was in high school was a teacher getting hit in the head with an apple. I feel bad for the kids today. When they pack for school, it's like packing to board an airplane after 9/11.

What a horrid, horrid time for our children to go to school. Parents think that they are sending their precious children to be educated, than some nut job kills them. Why is this happening? What message are the children receiving having to go through a metal detector to attend a class. What is going to "set" some one off that day?
Drugs, gangs, knives, guns, what else are our children going to experience. When I was in high schol there were the shooting at Kent State when a sniper killed the students.

I think it's terribly sad to know how dangerous it could be just sending your kids to school. It's hard to get an education when you have so much more to worry about. I do remember a girl in school pulling a knife on another girl, but she was quickly dealt with. Regardless of how rare it is, if it happens to one child it's one to many.

I did grow up in a very sheltered area. I never heard of anything like this happening at schools or anywhere else in my town. It's sad that this is happening. They are learning that the best way to deal with conflict is by violent means. Sad.

When I went to High School no one used weapons. There were plenty of fights, with our fists, not with guns and knifes.
This country has gone to hell
