Does anyone know the best way to clear off a fairly large oil stain on the garage floor after my car had an 'accident'.

Cheers!

A fresh motor oil stain from concrete is easier to remove than an old stain. Squirt some liquid dish detergent (preferably one designed for cutting grease) onto the stain. Add water. Be sure to wet down the area surrounding the stain as well to prevent oil from spreading during the cleaning process and causing a secondary stain. Scrub the stain vigorously with a nylon scrub brush (not a wire brush which can erode or scratch the concrete), adding enough water to make a rich soapy lather. Rinse with clean water. The soap will emulsify the oil and lift it out of the concrete, but it may take several attempts to completely remove all of the oil. When rinsing the area, it is more environmentally responsible to blot the area with a towel to remove the soapy water, since rinsing the mixture with a hose will allow the motor oil in the water to seep into the ecosystem or sewer system. Another way to remove motor oil from concrete is to spread a thick layer of cat litter over the grease to absorb the excess motor oil on the surface. Allow the litter to sit for a day or two, then sweep it away. Pour dry concrete over the dried grease spot. Allow the concrete to sit for a day or two, then sweep away the dirty concrete.;)

Try cat litter for the heavy stuff. Once the surface is cleaned of that, Westley's Bleche White (the stuff for cleaning tires, not the Armor All) will remove most if not all of that stain. Spray the stain, wait ten or fifteen minutes and then spray off the mess with a hose. The smoother the finish, the better this method with work. You may be left with a slight darkening of the concrete, but this will still be better than what it was before. A good sealer and coating will prevent this in the future.

I've always had great results with a product called Pour-n-restore...hardware stores carry it or you can order online. It's good at lifting out the oil residue from deep in the concrete...not just cleaning the top layer like kitty litter or other cleaning products.

first lay dry laundry soap over it to soak up any wet oil. if you have no wet oil, make a paste of dry laundry detergent and liquid dish soap( like dawn) and spread it over the stain. grind it in with a broom or brush. hose it off if you can without damaging things in your garage or get a squweege and dust pan and scrape it up.

use catlitter first or oil dry to soak up the oil as much as possible then clean the floor with muric acid.
