You probably won't like my #3 answer, either, but I can't help it!
The Red Sox' 2007 season is better than the Yankees' because the Sox made it to the ALCS!
Also:
The Yankees were too vulnerable to swarming mayflies.
=)
Ah, the sweet justice of Indians beating the hell out of Yankees to celebrate Columbus Day! It's about time! w00t!
------------------------------------
An answer below this one says Yankees this season are 2nd best--ah ah ah! at best Yankees are 3rd or 4th! They weren't even good enough to get a chance to be 2nd best! The Indians or the Sox will be 2nd best, depending on who wins the ALCS.
Re:pitching, reference the 1973 Atlanta Braves.

An ideal example of how good pitching beats the best hitting, (nearly*) every time. And the Sox have definitely got some good arms this year.
*(1973 Padres and Phillies *were* worse, so the Braves did manage to win a few more with those amazing bats ...and Phil Niekro)

Red Sox had better pitching and good defense. If the starter played well in the game, Red Sox relied on the bullpen to win the game most of the time. They had good defense than Yankees did. Red Sox was no 1 team in era and only team in the ML below 3.0. I think only thing Yankees better than Red Sox was offense. Pitching was the problem because of injuries.

As Yankee fan, I understand the pink Sox did greater effectual than the Yankees because of the fact of pitching yet baseball followers can no longer deny the shown fact that even although the Yankees lost interior the 1st around of the play-offs, thinking they have been at one time 141/2 video games out to win wild card shows that they did have a competent season.

The Red Sox have better starting pitching, a better bullpen, they can win with power, they also have speed. They've stayed healthy. They seem to have good team chemistry.
The Yankees just didn't get it done this season.

Pitching! The Red Sox has Curt Schilling, Josh Beckett, Dice- K, Tim Wakefield. They have a way better bullpen too. Manny Delcarmen, Jonathon Papelbon, Gagne, Hideki Okajima. Yankees have just Chien Ming Wang he apparantly hasn't been too good recently and Mike Mussina and Roger Clemens ( 2 old pitchers ). Plus, they have to rely on Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes a lot.

Well, the Sox had a better record, won their division, and made it past the first round of the playoffs. It's rather hard to argue that the Yankees were anything better than 2nd-best.

Red Sox had better pitching but if they win World Series, it means nothing because nobody wants to remembered for losing in division championship or World Series. You can hate either team but to say either team sucks is really not true. Year in & year out, what 2 teams win 90+ games a year, can the Tigers, Angels or Indians say that. Yes those teams did win 90+ games at one time or another but not consistantly.

yankees suck but i have reasons. first off they have won way to many wolrd series. second off the red sox has lifted their curse. Third off the red sox have david ortiz and manny ramiz and josh beckett. The indians are better than the yankees because it is their turn to shine(or at least go on to the champioship.)
