In a vacuum they would hit at the same time

In the real world the bus has more aerodynamic drag so the apple would hit first but the difference would be small.

It depends on the color of the apple. If it is red the bus will stop and the apple hits the ground first. If the apple is green however they both hit the ground at the same time.

Well if they are dropped at the same time ,they should hit the ground at the same time.Unless air resistance is a factor,in which case the apple would reach the ground last.

provided nothing gets in the way, some outside force like wind, they should hit at the same time according to popular belief. But I wonder if the bus, a heavier object reaches maximum free fall speed first. Do you need to drop them from a plane to find out?

"Galileo found that the heavy ball hit the ground first, but only by a little bit. Except for a small difference caused by air resistance, both balls reached nearly the same speed."

They hit at the same time -- excepting resistance of the air.
