US law says that its citizens need to get a license from OFAC to be permitted to spend money in Cuba.

Many thousands of Americans travel to Cuba without licenses - breaking their laws. Most travel via Mexico, Canada, the Bahamas.

For more details on the possible routes - see http://www.nashtravel.com/gateways.html

It's illegal to travel from the US to Cuba. People often travel between Montreal or Jamaica to Cuba. Be aware that it could create problems for you with the US State Department since you are not supposed to be doing this. Assuming that you are a US citizen, not a foreigner travelling on a foreign passport, how would you explain the entry they will make in your passport?

First as everyone else here said its illegal as a US citizen unless you receive a licence. Primarily you need to contact a travel agent in Cuba, then that agent will make the nececssary arrangements for you to leave from US to either Mexico, the Bahamas or Jamaica.

All you need to do is ensure that the Cuban Immigration does not stamp your passport. You actually get a Visa Application and that is stamped when you enter and actually not your passport. You can learn more and get great links at

First of all, as a U.S. citizen, you can go to jail for spending money in Cuba.

The only way to get to Cuba is via Mexico ro Canada... or, of course, flying from Europe. There are no flights from the U.S.

Don' t you know that AmeriKans have not been able to go to Cuba for over 40 years now?

Travel to Mexico and then on to Cuba. It's not technically "illegal" for U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba, just not "recommended" and there is no way to get to Cuba directly from the U.S.

Traveling from the US to Jamaica. Air Jamaica as a direct flight to Havana. The good thing for me is that my parents are Jamaicans so I can apply for a Jamaican passport and enter Cuba.

Not possible afraid, you'd have to travel to Canada and go in that way but if you have an American passport you very unlikely to get into Cuba.
