Anyone know how to get USB gamepads to work with Vista?

I have a Thrustmaster gamepad. When I plug it in I get "Windows doesn't recognize this device." I have the current driver installed, which says it is Vista compatable. When I go to my device manager, it says "Unknown Device". I click on driver details and it tells me no driver is installed. When I attempt to install the driver it says the current driver is the best driver, even though it will still say no driver is installed.
Mind boggling.

The Vista driver is garbage.

Watch the Thrustmaster gamepad website for a fix.
