Don't keep running water in the sink or you risk flushing it beyond the trap where it wll be irretrievable. To take trap off you need a pair of slip joint pliers. On both ends of trap is a large nut, loosen both but put a bucket or pan under it before taking it off. It's full of water.
The white plastic is the trap.

First, turn off the water. Second, remove the trap under the sink, as the earring will likely be trapped in the downward-curving part. Third, do this on a weekday because plumbers charge more on weekends (just in case something goes wrong).

Take the suggestions about the "P" trap.

While you have it off you might as well replace any compression washers too.
