you have an ingrown nail, and are likely prone to them if you trim your own toenails you are trimming them too short. Yes, make an appointment for your doctor to remove the ingrown nail and give you some antibiotics.

I have a lot of experience in this area. First off clean it well use alcohol and a q tip if you have to. If your sure its ingrown try to pull it up some and tuck a little bit of cotton underneath to stop it from regrowing back that way. Soak your foor in warm water mixed with dish soap and a cap of bleach. If its not better in about a week see a doctor it might have to get some meds. Good luck and dont let your toe fall off. Oh by the way no antibiotic sab putting it on thewre will cause the puss the be trapped....and that will make things not so pretty.

You do have an ingrown toenail. It's also infected too. Ingrown toenails sound "painful but harmless". But they are not. I have known two people who tried to treat a severely ingrowing toenail on their own and ended up needing serious medical attention. One tried to "pop" the pus sac open herself with what she thought was a sterilised needle. She made the infection worse and the next day her entire foot was swollen and kind of bluish and cold. The other, ended up trying to dig out the ingrown part herself. she ended up cutting her toe and creating a serious infection. Go to the doctor, please.

Cut nails straight across rather than tapering at the sides. This instruction for cutting toenails has been around since I was a child 80 years ago.

Go to the doctor. What are you waiting for? Pus indicates infection.

Don't wait. A small infection can turn nasty VERY quickly. Go to a doctor.

This will not get better on it's own. Limp to the podiatrist.
