For magnesium, there are 3 main levels, and for each of them, there's an s sublevel: 1s, 2s, and 3s. Each invididual s sublevel can ONLY hold 2 electrons.

Now I'm not sure what your question is asking. Is it the total number of electrons in all the s sublevels of magnesium that you want or just for a specific s sublevel (in this case, one of the 3).

There are a total of 6 electrons in the 3 s sublevels, since there's 2 electron in each of the 1s, 2s and 3s. (2 X 3 = 6)

There are always 2 electrons in an s orbital.
