The first fix is the "Bones" of the house...i.e. the rough sawn timber used for floor joists, stud walls, roof trusses or traditional rooves etc.
.
The second fix is door casings, doors, architraving, fascias and soffits etc.
Generally, timber that is P.A.R. (Planed All Round) is classed as second fix.
First fix used to be known as "Carpentery" work. and the second fix work was "Joinery". Now the term joinery seems to cover all wood working on site.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/6p4J8
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.
