My husband bought deli meat these last two weeks and I have eaten one like everyday! I would heat the meat, but not sure if I did it long enough...anyways, I wasn't aware of listeria and now I'm freaking out...should I go to the hospital and get a blood test to make sure I don't have it. I'm freaking out!!

What? *puts down the cold cut sandwich* I have had 2 kids and am pregnant with my third. I have eaten deli meat and haven't had a problem...don't freak yourself out. If you are really concerned, call your OB, but I wouldn't be too scared. It is easy to freak yourself out about these things, but I would be willing to bet on a tan of tuna and a cup of coffee Jr. is just fine. Just steer away from it from now on...and good luck with baby!

You don't have listeria, if you had it, you'd know it. You don't need to avoid deli meat if you get it from a reputable store or buy a brand that is well known.

And I have to laugh at the dude who wrote you don't need to worry unless you have symptoms like "stomach acne". That was a funny typo.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you are sick, really sick. Only 2500 people in the US get it each year. The rate is 9.7 cases per million people. While it is extremely dangerous if you get it the chances are extremely low. As long as the meat was from a reputable place and not past date you are most likely safe.

don't go to the hospital just call your doctor. I ate lunchmeat with my son and I have eaten it with this pregnancy and i have never had a problem. Don't get yourself all worked up or else it will make for a long pregnancy.

First, you need to relax. You are not supposed to eat processed meat. You need to call your doctor and let them know and they will check you out during your regular appointment or will have you come in sooner. I'm sure you are fine, but do let your doctor know.

I am 20 weeks and my doctor told me it is fine as long as I heat it up before hand. I think you will be just fine, but if you are worried call your doctor.

I don't think so. I ate lunchmeat all the time and never had a problem.

I have to add this...

It's not what pregnant people believe...it's what all those dang books and websites say out there.

As long as you do not have fever, stomach acne or diarrhea, you are okay.
