Can you really turn in your ipod for a newer model?

So i heard you can send your ipod into apple, and receive credits or something that can be used to buy a newer model. Is this true and how does it work?
I looked on the website but couldnt find anything

I don't think so, because the newer models are more expensive that the old ones now. Think about it, if they really did, everyone would be getting a lot of free money.
