Absolutely, My parents had a huge vegetable garden and we canned just about everything we could. We grew potatoes, squash, beans, beets, tomatoes... canned them all. Its definitely a lot of work but well worth it when January rolls around and you have fresh food stored up and don't have to buy the stuff at store.

Sure! How do you think the settlers got their food before grocery stores? They canned it, salted it, smoked it, they also and still do have outside underground fruit cellars. it keep fruit and veggies cool all winter and spring till the new crops.
