Room rates rise when it is convention season. The cheapest rooms of the year are the week before Christmas. I work in a casino on the Strip. It is a ghost town that week. The different hotels are fighting for guests, versus convention season, where the rates are astronomical.

Avoid March, and April. Rates go up because of various spring breaks, and March madness betting ( basketball), as well as numerous conventions.

Avoid October as well. It is the height of conventions season.

Overall I would say the week before Christmas would be the cheapest. In recap, months to avoid, March, April, and October.

This year the best room rates are from November 18th up until December 28th. There are a couple of weekends in there where the rates jump up pretty good(Thanksgiving and NFR), but, generally speaking those are the least expensive nights of the year(that time of the year always is)

The other "generally" good times to pick up good room rates are from Memorial Day until the Saturday after Labor Day. Then Again from the First of November until the end of February.

For the best rates you still need to plan well in advance and avoid, weekends, special events and large conventions.

Two sites I use to check LV room rates
http://www.travelworm.com
http://www.hotels.com

then compare those rates to the hotel web site

IMO these are the best value hotels on the strip
Venetian - 5 star
Luxor - 4 star
Stratosphere - 3 star

Staying just off the strip can often save you a bundle.
Orleans - 3 star
Gold Coast - 2 star

try now - i saw some good hotels like Paris offering rooms for merely $60 / night on expedia.com . Also staying away from the Strip will save you money . Do look for bargains for hotels like The Venetian and Paris / Bellagio / etc as these are beautiful properties to stay in even if you do pay a little premium for them , they have so much to offer its worth it !
