Some of you may know that I have been busy accompanying a friend for all sorts of tests lately and have not been on line. The tests results came in, Marie was diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lyme disease. She never knew she was bitten by a tick. She now is taking antibiotics. We were a little frightened at first because her platelets were very low, then a mild rash, flu like symptoms, the nausea and vomiting joint pain. We still can't find the tick though.
I am back taking care of Brian, her son, with cerebral palsy , epilepsy and schitzophrenia, so life is back to normal!

Isn't that something?. The metabolic panel came back today. We thought it might be some sort of ulcer or stomach cancer,.
There are woods behind our houses here and her pup sleeps with her, so maybe? But truly, we never saw a tick
so were really surprised at the outcome

Thanks so much everyone! You people are absolutely wonderful!
When she was sick in the car after these tests, I was just hoping I wasn't going to join her throwing up driving 60 miles an hour! Just the sound, gets me, LOL

YES, I have had 'tick' fever. Back in Oct. 1988, and I ended up at the Valley Baptist Medical Center Hospital, Harlingen, Texas ! (another LONG story came about because of this- Not Good, this second story)
It took me about 5 months to regain my strength. I was working at a manufacturing plant from 6:a.m., until 2:30 p.m., and farmed veggies during my 'off' hours.
RMSF is in the typhus family, and quite rare, as I am sure you know, by now.
Your friend will require a lot of bed rest, peace and quiet, and Especially a well balanced diet, with a lot of fruit, and check with the doctor about certain 'herbs / spices'.
Best of luck, and,
MAY THE BIG BOSS ABOVE, SMILE UPON YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES !!!!!!!

I had Lyme disease about 6 years ago. The tick was right underneath my breast. I found it in the shower. Your friend's tick has most likely dropped off by now. I was on anti bios for 6 weeks and also had to see a neurologist as I was suffering partial paralysis down my left side. I recovered completely but was left with a vry low immune system for more than 2 years and got every cold virus and bug than went around. Your friend needs to start building her system up with lots of vits, ecinachea, tonics etc. It's a really draining illness.

I've never had either, but I've heard of others who have. I'm glad your friend found out what was making her ill. We live in a wooded area and I've found ticks on myself. Animals do carry in ticks also. I use a flea comb to check my cats and a larger comb on the dog as well as brushing the hair back and parting it to get a better look. When you remove a tick NEVER do it with bare hands and be sure to get the head out. This is a short article on how to remove it and more important what not to do. My best to you both, she's blessed to have you as a friend.

Her symptoms also sound exactly like West Nile Virus, from a mosquito, we have had one death this year in Idaho and over 100 cases, it is harder on young and older people. I have had so many ticks on me from when I was a kid up until about 10 years ago that I couldn't count them and never got a thing from them but one of my daughters little friends in jr high got a tick bite when they were at her grandmas in Montana and had to be treated. Her symptoms were like arthritis, swollen and aching joints and fever Bless you for your love and care of your friend. Prayers are with you girl.

I'm happy that you found out the cause. Make sure everyone walking through the woods has long pants & long sleeves. Deer ticks, which are the ones that carry lyme disease, are very small. You were lucky to have caught it early.

WOW, you have a full plate right now. I don't know of anyone who has BOTH Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever(RMSF) AND Lyme Disease. But I do know a gentleman who was diagnosed with RMSF. It took him quite a while to get his strength back.

Not I, but a close co-worker of mine was diagnosed many years ago - before they were able to more easily do so. She went to Seminary to become a Lutheran Minister...got her first assignment and shortly thereafter became ill. It took 4 years for them to diagnose her and by then a lot of irreversible organ damage had taken place [Lyme Disease] - she now lives in assisted living at 60...but in good humor :-)

My heart goes out to you and yours! You are one phenomenal woman and I applaud your outlook and attitude! :-)
