Please friends, I am talking about current period. Please look at the scenario, why nowadays youngersters don't become great scientists.
India is doing great in education, but we don't invent many things. We do develop good products on the inventions of others. Please try to reason out why it is not happening. What are the issues our younger generation is facing, which is not making them to become great scientists

It is because scientist community doesn't make much progress. i am not trying to criticize the scientist community in India. Researches are extremely expensive. U just have to try and try agains, until u get to the bottom of the problem, which could take very long time. Like in many parts of the world, they are doing resarch to find a medicine for breast cancer, AIDS and all those other diseases. But they are not very successful in finding a cure for it. So those research has been going around for years, but still haven't progressed that much yet. But the governement or private companies fund them. SO they can go ahead and strech their research as long as they are making some kind of progress. Can u see Indian goverment or private companies funding for those research and taking all the expenses for the scientists research material and also paying all their salary for the scientis and the cost for a research that can take for many years. I don't think they can, because many of these research takes millions of dollars and India would have hard time affording all of it especially since we are a developing country not a developed country.

I really would love to see some research for AIDS done in India, because there are a lot people who suffer from it there. So getting samples of the disease and actually looking at the virus wouldn't be a problem as long as the people agree, u know. But the funding is what they have to worry about. It would be really cool to have such a research done in India. It would help India, because people there really need it.

I think that Indians should have a lot more scientist to do research, but now a days people in India give more importance to getting to a foreign country and succeeding or they think about IT. Because those are the scopeful fields. I don't know, I guess if the schools and the gov encourages the students, they probably would look into being a scientist !

As Injanier wrote, India has had a lot of great scientists such as Srinivasa Ramanujan and Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. You have to realize that in today's day and age it is much more difficult for an individual scientist to attain the fame of those in the past as projects are a lot more complicated, complex and expensive. More and more scientists need to work in teams. You hardly see Nobel prize winners that are individuals. Most are part of large collaborations.
There are many great scientists from many nations, they just aren't as famous because of the above reasons and it is harder and harder to make applications right away from their work to affect our lives. When they are done, its by engineers and companies and you don't see the individual name recognition as much as before.
If some great Indian scientist discovered a new theory that rivals that of relativity, how many people would understand it and how many applications can come out of it right away? There might be a scientist that may very well have contributions that compare to Newton and Einstein, but you won't see anything thing from his/her theory until technology catches up, which may be 20 years from now.

Look at who just won the Nobel prize in physics, a couple of days ago. Those scientists contributions made it possible to store a lot of date in very small objects, making ipods, mp3s readily available. But do you think anyone knows their names? No. Most people have no idea who these great scientists are.

Things are just different these days. You have many young people becoming great scientists and you have a lot more that don't. It's always been that way.

Doubtless it is profound. I tend to doubt the validity of quotes attributed to Ben Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain and possibly Will Rogers. They are about as valid as psalms attributed to King David. And just because a man alleged to have been a genius may have said it does not necessarily mean that it is true, or true for all time. There is evidence, for instance, that his wife did a lot of the mathematics on his Theory of Relativity. Have you looked at the evidence that he may have had Asperger's syndrome? He didn't do too badly for a file clerk in a Swiss customs office. What contribution have you made to Western Civilization? How long shall we expect this question to have top billing in Homework? Is this the result of the new layout, the same dreadful questions having the shelf life of Twinkies?

IQ wise, there are thousands of people that can much up with the intelligence of Einstein, Newton, etc.
let's look at the scenario,
first, people perceive being a scientist a waste of time. why? it's because they don't see it as an EARNING profession. you have to devote yourself trying to discover something for a long period of time, after which, you have proven something ingenious, and that's the time you earn money. the youth usually wants immediate gratification.
second, we have SCIENTISTS and we have INVENTORS. but they are not supported well by the government, and this discourage many potential geniuses to come out.
third, i believe there are many Indian scientist and inventors, only for the fact that many of them migrate to other countries because they shall be supported there. and by the time they discover something, they are already citizens of that country.

the same thing happens here in the Philippines.

the government should not waste the minds of these people, they should be supported.

hope i helped you..^_^

i believe those type of people come once in a while and are very rare. i think people in India are not trying so hard because America has grown so much so fast that it is getting almost everything before India and that is just slumping them down but also giving them encouragement in some sort of way to work harder. but India has such a high population that, the one in a million person is in India and will be recognized sooner or later.

Robotic memorization does not inspire the creativity of genius... Ethnocentrism does not provide a mind open to the ideas and equality of the rest of the world which is also inspiration for genius... From my experience in education, a good student is not necessarily an intelligent person...He/She could simply be a regurgitator of facts...

Geniuses like that don't come by very often. Even so, India gave us Srinivasa Ramanujan and Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, so you're not doing so badly.
